Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church
In August of 1961, Rev. Wyatt was called
to pastor Antioch in Dennison, Texas. Rev.
Timothy Prince was called in 1961, and
pastored Macedonia for nearly 2 years.
Upon his departure, which resulted in the
formation of the North Park Baptist Church,
Rev. B. H. Wyatt returned to Macedonia.
He pastored Macedonia until 1970, when
he was called to New Hope in Terrell,
Texas. In 1970 Macedonia called the late
Rev. W.G. Jones of Waco Texas, who
pastored until 1972.

In September 1972, we looked among our
own congregation for a leader. We called
someone well known to us, however, he
had only been called into the ministry for a
short while. Bennie Lawrence Wyatt joined
Macedonia just three months after its
organization and he began singing in the
choir. He later became an ordained
deacon and years later an ordained
minister. Calling him as the pastor had
been a wise decision and a great long-term
investment for Macedonia.

In 1975, the first down payment was made
on the property at 6635 Roper. In 1979 we
burnt the note on 4719 Cowan. We moved
to 6635 Roper on May 12, 1984.
Renovation was completed and we officially
dedicated the Fellowship Hall (which is
4719 Cowan) on Sunday, September 22,
1991. On Sunday, October 24, 1999., the
church note on 6635 Roper St. was
burned. In 2003 the purchase began on
additional property next door.

January 2005, brought the announcement
of Rev. Wyatt's retirement. After thirty-two
years and four months of leadership at
Macedonia,  he stepped down with the
recommendation of Rev. T. W. Kennedy of
Terrell, Texas as our new pastor. His
recommendation was unanimously
accepted. Rev. Kennedy officially took the
leadership role on the first Sunday in
February 2005.

Rev. Kennedy has brought and maintained
the standard of sound preaching of the
gospel of Jesus Christ. His energy has
been directed to teaching the adults on
Wednesday nights and expansive Christian
exposure for our youth.

Church History
1958 - Present

On October 8, 1958, the late Rev. B. H.
Wyatt organized the Macedonia
Missionary Baptist Church with the
assistance of his father, the late Rev.
Harry Earl Wyatt and the late Rev.
Nathaniel Hawthorne.

Prior to the night of organization, Rev.
Wyatt stated he canvassed the North Park
area door to door, notifying the community,
as well as, soliciting support of his plans to
open the doors of a new church. He
received 120 commitments to stand by him
with his new plan, however, on that rainy
night in October, only 8 people walked
through the doors of the Masonic Hall,
located at 6700 Webster St. They were
Sis. Thelma Wyatt (his wife), Sis. Jimmie
M. Wyatt (his mother), Sis. Julia Singletary
(his sister), Bro Jimmy J. Wyatt (his
brother), Sis Dorothy Wyatt (sister-in-law),
Bro. Johnny Singletary, Sis. Ruby
Singletary and Sis. Gwen McCoy, who
became Macedonia's first musician.

Brother Crawford, a leader in the Masonic
Lodge allowed Rev. Wyatt to use their hall
to organize and also offered it for a place
of worship. The weekly rent was $12.50.
There was no charge for utilities. We didn't
own chairs, so they were rented for $15
per month. The first piano was a white
upright, purchased for $75 by Rev. Wyatt
and Bro. Johnny Singletary.

Macedonia grew rapidly. The majority of
the members were tithers and most of the
members sang in the choir.

The first of the year, in 1961, Macedonia
moved to 4719 Cowan, which was originally
a shotgun house and later converted to
our worship facility.

In August of 1961, Rev. Wyatt was called
to pastor Antioch in Dennison, Texas. Rev.
Timothy Prince was called in 1961, and
pastored Macedonia for nearly 2 years.
Upon his departure, which resulted in the
formation of the North Park Baptist
Church, Rev. B. H. Wyatt returned to
Macedonia. He pastored Macedonia until
1970, when he was called to New Hope in
Terrell, Texas. In 1970 Macedonia called
the late Rev. W.G. Jones of Waco Texas,
who pastored until 1972.
